About Us

Belford Research, Inc., is located and incorporated in South Carolina.
Belford Research Inc. is a Microelectronics Research Company specializing in Electronic Materials, in particular straining semiconductor materials and devices. Our main function is to develop New Straining Manufacturing Processes to produce ultra-fast CMOS devices. The main customers for these processes are in mainstream electronics manufacturers. We also work on processes to augment high-speed electronics for robust applications.

Facilities

The company occupies 3300 sq. ft. of laboratory space. Laboratory facilities include a purpose built class-100 clean room, with dedicated air handlers and extraction facility. It houses several class 100 clean stations with laminar flow and extraction. Our working environment exceeds this standard and approaches class 10 conditions. The clean room is equipped for direct wafer bonding and plasma activated wafer bonding.

Our wafer thinning facilities (up to 8") include a DAG810 Grinder (Disco) and for sub 80 micron wafer thickness a MemSstar XeF2 Dry Etcher & Remote Plasma System. Our three separate Mechanical straining facilities are housed in independent soft wall clean rooms. We are also well equipped for other semiconductor grade chemical processes: silicon wet and dry etching, front side IC protection, spin coating, indirect wafer bonding and polymerization techniques.

Our engineering lab houses 2 laminar work stations and 2 extraction stations, and housed separately is a full size Bridgeport milling machine and bench-top lathe. The optics lab includes semiconductor surface and sample thickness determination equipment, and computer controlled high power 4 lens (x1000) microscope with Normarsky prisms and video capture. The electronics (test) lab is equipped with an 8" probe station and an Agilent 4155C semiconductor parameter analyzer. We also have a Solartron frequency generator/ analyzer ranging from 10e-4Hz to 32 MHz and numerous electrometers and voltmeters.
